LINK PROJECT

For my project, I decided to create a video that shows the perspective of visitors and what goes on behind the scenes. Most people don't realize how much work goes into everything and how much staff it takes to do one thing. I only filmed 2 different things. Interviews with staff members, and I filmed a walkthrough of the entire museum. I only filmed those 2 things because it was A LOT of footage. I would have liked to get videos of artifacts in storage that aren't on display, but legally, I wasn't sure I could. The video was my big project, but I also had 3 other projects I was tasked to do each week. For my first week, I was working with my mentor Samantha Biffle in the programs department. With Sam, I was tasked to write 33 scripts for an event that the museum will be held in June. I finished all of the scripts in 2 1/2 days, so I tasked myself with creating a tour that I, or the museum, could use. I created a map with a route, and pages of notes to study for artifacts on display.

For my second week, I was working with Darby Reiners in the registrar department. Registrar is in charge of artifacts, exhibit creating, and "the Stacks" (the section of the museum where all artifacts in storage are kept). With Darby, I created a mini-exhibit full of old local school artifacts, yearbooks, papers, and photos. The narrative of the exhibit shines light on standardized testing in the State of Texas. The exhibit will be done near the end of May and beginning of June, but I have provided a picture of what it looks like so far (without books, papers, and photos).

For my third week, I was with Warren Stricker in the artifacts department. With Warren, I was tasked with reading 100-year-old letters dating from 1917-1919 written by a WWI soldier to his girlfriend. I had to write down what was in them including their dates and put them in chronological order so they can be put into the computer system.
